The Yamaha NU1XA AvantGrand Hybrid Digital Piano impressively combines the mechanisms of an upright piano with advanced technology, providing an authentic and dynamic playing experience. This piano perfectly captures the delicate actions from key to hammer, reflecting the subtleties and expressive intentions of the player, including techniques like trills and rapid repetitions. The wooden keyboard, reminiscent of acoustic pianos, offers a solid and natural response, elevating the playing experience to new heights of quality and uniqueness.
Overview of the Yamaha NU1XA AvantGrand Hybrid Digital Piano
The NU1XA utilizes the operational mechanics of an upright piano to transfer the intricate movements of the keys to the hammers. It precisely captures the finest nuances and expressive intentions of the player, including sophisticated performance techniques such as trills and continuous repetitions. Additionally, the wooden keyboard, similar to that of acoustic pianos, provides a firm, natural response.
This model features a newly developed sensing system that accurately captures the most subtle performance nuances through non-contact optical sensors and Yamaha’s proprietary algorithms. This system employs two separate sensors per key: one for the hammer—crucial for the piano’s sound mechanism—and another for the key itself, accurately measuring finger release movements to precisely articulate special tonal nuances when the sound stops. Together, they capture the finest expressions of the player.
The damper pedal on the grand piano responds with slight resistance variations to the player’s foot, depending on how and when the pedal is pressed and sustained. Skilled players can feel these slight resistance changes and subtly alter their pedaling to add personal nuance to the tone and sound. Moreover, the resistance changes when the pedal is released differ from when it is pressed. The GrandTouchTM pedal uses a lever structure similar to that of a grand piano, providing a familiar pedal feel and expression while further expanding the range of performance.
When the hammer strikes the strings, the performer immediately hears the sound, and the entire instrument resonates, filling the room with beautiful sound. To authentically reproduce the unique sound experience produced by a grand piano, the NU1XA utilizes a new sound system. It features upward-facing bass speakers that create a deep reverberation throughout the instrument and newly designed horn-structured tweeters that resonate at high frequencies at the front and back of the instrument. Together with these synthetic resonance effects, the sound quality and projection capabilities allow the player to meticulously control the sound in real-time during performance, producing a sound as close to a real grand piano as possible, creating a three-dimensional space in the entire performance area.
The Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) technology faithfully reproduces the extremely complex resonances of a grand piano created by string vibrations and the soundboard. These sympathetic overtones are added according to the timing and intensity of key and pedal presses—expanding the tonal palette to allow for even greater expressive diversity.
